Hand Warmer!
So my super sister, who you can find at www.streetsandyos.com, decided to donate to the give ingrid yarn foundation, and sent me all kinds of great yarns and two patterns and knitting needles AND huge safety pin things. what a way to contribute to her gene-sharing buddy! thanks diana! anyways, getting straight to knitting and away from homework, i made a handwarmer from the stitch n' bitch nation book. i guess its supposed to be a leaf pattern, and i tried my best, but i dont think the pattern really looks like anything when its bleached out by camera's flash. *sigh* but, this pattern was super fast, and hopefully the next one will be done in no time too! its just ribbing and then 50 rows of pattern (which i had to consult my sister about 10 times to decode), and then more ribbing and some thumb, and, bam! all done. what a warm hand.

I'm Down on the Brain
so, for the past couple days, ive been wokring on a new hat. i should have been working on scott's hat, but right now, im hopelessly lost on the pattern, and im thinking of tossing the whole thing and starting from scratch because its waay complex for me. so, while i was thinking about thinking of scott's hat, here's what i made:
and look how nice it fits!
i probably would have shown the-making-of pictures, but after it was done, i changed some of the element colors and took off a bottom part of ribbing since, as you can easily observe the hugley big benzene, the pattern was a *tad* bit larger than i thought, and with ribbing, the hat was way too big. i hope this stirs up science inspiration for everyone!

Before and After
okay, so *maybe* the sweater isnt completely dry yet, but i really wanted to try it on to see the length. then with the magic of paint, i juxtaposed before and after blocking pics next to each other. after is on the right. its kind of funny, because the yellow looks kinda wavy, revealing where the safety pins were. i reblocked with more pins to minimize the waves for when it actually is 100% dry. but, im pretty happy with the result! i think it grew about 4 inches, which is nothing to complain about!

New Knits on the Block
so here it is! whoot for my first sweater! now maybe i actually will study since i cant work on the sweater anymore! i'm trying to stretch the body a little longer in hopes of not seeing any parts of my belly when the sweater is combined with low-rise pants. i guess the sleeves will look lumpy no matter what since i used i think 4 different types of yarns, but who needs rules like that anyway! in a few days, i'll be ready to post more on my other project, scott's hat, and maybe even start another new hat. the plans for that one are to use rowan calmer to make a super soft comfy hat with the fabulous structure of dopamine stitched into it so i can be *that* much cooler when i go to the society for neuroscience seminar in november. ha, the simple joys of too many science classes.

Almost There!
so, i stayed in last night to do some super studying for a test i have monday, and i figured that would be safer for my grade than drinking with friends. after not being able to think straight from spending so much energy focused on atp, i called it a night for studying, and got to work on that second sleeve. suffice to say, it was done by lunch time, and all sewed up pretty shortly thereafter. the torso right now is pretty wide and short, so hopefully blocking will take care of that, but here it is (complete with thumbholes)!
